Police offer reward for missing mother
$15,000 offered for info on woman's whereabouts:
Oakland mother Nina "Nenasha" Reiser has not been seen since September 3, 2006
OAKLAND — After two futile searches this past weekend for the missing Nina Reiser, police on Monday offered $15,000 in reward money for information leading to locating her.
Police had been calling her a missing person at risk but are now classifying the case as a "suspicious circumstances" disappearance.
Some $5,000 of the reward comes from the Carol Sund/Carrington Foundation and the rest from other sources.
The reward is for anyone "who provides information directly leading to Nina Reiser's location and/or the prosecution of whomever is responsible for her disappearance," police said.
On Saturday, more than 150 law enforcement officers and volunteers assisted by search dogs scoured the area of Redwood Regional Park looking for signs of the 31-year-old mother of two who was last seen Sept. 3 dropping her children off at their father's Montclair home.
On Sunday morning, a smaller group of friends and relatives searched Montclair Park and other parts of the Oakland hills she was known to frequent.
Nothing of note was found in either search, authorities said.
Reiser was reported missing Sept. 5 by her best friend and her boyfriend when she failed to pick up her 5- and 6-year-old children from their elementary school.
Her 2001 Honda Odyssey van was found near Highway 13 and Thornhill Drive on Sept. 9 and area residents told police they first saw it there Sept. 5.
Police have searched the house of Reiser's estranged husband, Hans Reiser, on Exeter Drive and removed several items but have not disclosed what those were.
The Reisers have been embroiled in an acrimonious divorce since Nina Reiser filed for a divorce in 2004, but it has not been finalized. The court awarded sole custody of the two kids to Nina Reiser, and had stripped Hans Reiser of visitation at times.
Investigators have said they plan to interview Hans Reiser at some point but have still not called him a suspect in her disappearance. The police handling of the case has angered Hans Reiser and his attorney, William H. Du Bois.
Du Bois on Monday said his client is absolutely distrustful of police for searching his home and testifying against him in his attempt to gain custody of his children who police had placed with Child Protective Services. Du Bois said he is not sure if he will allow Reiser to be interviewed.
They're saying he is not a suspect but they are treating him like a suspect, Du Bois said.

Joliet is 23 inches tall, weighs 12 pounds and was last seen wearing a red and white shirt and blue jeans overalls.
She was with her foster mother at William J. McAdam Park Monday afternoon when a man approached them and demanded the infant.
The man then fled in a vehicle driven by a woman. He was found hours later and held for questioning, though not immediately booked.
Based on information the man provided, Joliet was believed to be with her biological mother, Maria Cedano Ayala, Castro said.
Joliet was taken from Ayala at birth and placed in foster care because the baby was born addicted to narcotics, Castro said.
Ayala, the biological mother, is described as 43 years old, about 5 feet 5 and weighing about 150 pounds. She may be driving a blue four-door 1995 Mercury Marquis, license plate number 5RSK813, according to the sheriff's department.
Anyone with information about Joliet or Ayala is urged to contact the sheriff's Palmdale station at (661) 272-2400.

Keiton, aged 7, was first diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia but in the last month of treatment the disease turned into Acute Myeloidblastic Leukaemia and now he must have a Bone marrow Transplant.
Paris, Keiton’s mum is an incredible woman and single mother, who has been a tower of strength for him and now really needs your help to make her dream come true and watch her much loved son grow up and have a fulfilling life.
Time is running out for Keiton and the only way to save his life is to go give blood directly to one of the clinics.
We are looking for mixed race individuals to become a Bone Marrow donor for Keiton, as his tissue type is very unusual.

A small needle will be placed in each arm and the blood is removed from you left arm and is passed through a machine which removes the Stem Cells and the blood is then passed back into your right arm. QUESTION&ANSWER'S ABOUT SARAH'S LAW!
Sarah's Law is often misunderstood and as a result unfounded criticisms have been leveled. Here are some questions and answers that explode the myths:
QUESTION: Will Sarah's Law mean everyone on the Sex Offenders Register has their name and address published?
ANSWER: No. Nor will it mean names and photographs are put onto websites or signs put up outside people's houses. Only information about the most serious types of offender will be released, in writing, to those who are legitimately entitled to it, such as parents and carers who live in the local area.
QUESTION: Won't Sarah's Law simply still create a wave of vigilante attacks?
ANSWER: No. Access to information would be carefully controlled by the police and there would be severe penalties for those who abuse it. In America, which has a less strict scheme than the one proposed under Sarah's Law, the overall level of vigilante attacks is minor. Former head of Scotland Yards Paedophile Squad, Bob McLachlan says, Sarahs Law is about working with the public not against it. The community has to understand that vigilantism will not be tolerated under any circumstances, but NOT telling the public the truth about paedophiles in their midst can lead to paranoia, mistaken identity and violence.
QUESTION: But hasn't there been a large number of murders in America where a similar scheme called Megans Law exists?
ANSWER: No. There are known to have been two double murders in recent times but this is in a country with 550,000 sex offenders and five times the population of the UK. In both cases, the assailants had criminal histories of their own. They did not live in the area where they committed the attacks and they would not have been entitled to information under Sarah's Law, which would have stricter safeguards than Megans Law.
QUESTION: Will Sarah's Law simply lead to paedophiles committing more crimes because it will drive them underground?

Statistics show that between 1 in 3 and 1 in 4 girls will be molested during childhood and between 1 in 5 and 1 in 6 boys will be molested. Often the trauma caused by childhood sexual abuse blights a person for life and can lead to suicide. The UK has the highest suicide rate in Europe with 5000 deaths a year. Suicide is the number one cause of death for boys aged 18-25.
A four-year 13 million investigation into sexual abuse at children's homes in north Wales during the 1970s reveals that up to 750 youngsters - some as young as seven - were subjected to "an obscene and random catalogue of violence and cruelty". At least 12 suicides have resulted. Child abusers work in networks and children from the homes were fed to police officers, civil servants and businessmen over a period of 20 years. Up to 150 adults were involved but only a dozen or so have been jailed.
February 2000 saw the launch of the Moira Anderson Foundation. Funded by profits from the sale of Sandra Brown's excellent book Where there is evil, the Foundation has been created in memory of an 11-year-old girl who disappeared in Coatbridge, near Glasgow, Scotland, in February 1957. Where there is evil (Macmillan, 1998) tells the inspirational story of one woman's attempts to bring the murderer to justice over 30 years later.
Research by the UK Home Office published this week (18 February 2000) suggests that the 6,000 rapes and 18,000 indecent assaults reported to the police in 1996 plus the third of sex assaults reported to the police which are not recorded by them as crimes represent probably only one tenth of the actual number of sex attacks. This suggests that the true figure for UK sex crimes is between 118,000 and 295,000 a year.
